Reives Responds: What questions do you have ahead of the Long Session?
Submit questions for Rep. Reives to respond to as the Legislature returns to Raleigh.
The North Carolina General Assembly is returning to begin the Long Session in earnest this week. Soon, Legislators will be filing their first bills and we will get a sense of what the legislative priorities are for the year. Hurricane Helene recovery remains top of mind for everyone, but the State will also have to deal with other pressing issues, including education funding, state employee and teacher salaries, health care needs, water quality and more, all culminating in a budget by the end of the year.
What questions do you have for us as legislators return to Raleigh this week? Feel free to submit multiple questions, and we’ll try to answer as many as we can. They could be about certain policies, questions about how state government works in North Carolina, or just questions for Rep. Reives generally.
We want to hear from you and hopefully make this an ongoing conversation. You can reply directly to this email if you’re reading it from your inbox, or otherwise click the button below. We look forward to hearing from you.
Please stop any attempts to further restrict building codes. As I understand it, HR 488 passed in 2023 prohibits codes in NC from addressing energy efficiency until 2026. Energy efficiency provisions in the the latest international building code, adopted by other states, would save consumers money and also reduce demands for new power plants. The governor's office at the time also pointed out NC lost $70M in grant money because of this provision.
when will we get an increase in the minimum wage? And why do we not see Democrats in the NCGA fighting for this?
